For bottle blondes like myself, purple shampoos are an absolute necessity.
And since I can’t stand when my hair leans red/orange, I *need* the purple shampoo to tone down the brassy tones.
If you aren’t familiar with how purple shampoos work, it’s all based on colour science. To counteract a specific colour, you need to use the shade directly across from the original shade on a color wheel. So to remove the yellow/brassy/orange, I’d need to use blue or purple.
The purple shampoos that I rely on are the Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo, and the Clairol Shimmering Lights Shampoo. What I like about these two shampoos is how intensely pigmented they are, so they definitely help fight the brassy battle.
So I was quite surprised to see that the OGX Lavender Luminescent Platinum Shampoo and Conditioner were so light (the shampoo was a clear light violet – and I’m used to my purple shampoos looking exactly like blue craft paint). I thought that because they weren’t as pigmented as my previous purple shampoos, they wouldn’t work. However, after using it for the first time I was pleasantly surprised to catch a glimpse of my hair in the mirror and see how the highlights in my recently done hair popped! They were shiny, bright, and had a real vibrancy, which is usually hidden due to the brassy-ness.
Furthermore, the OGX Lavender Luminescent Platinum line smells glorious. I’m so used to only using hair products that smell like fruit salad, but the OGX products smelled like a cool lavender soda – so fresh!
The only downside I found is one that I find with all my purple shampoos, and that is that it made my usually dry scalp feel even more dry.
You can find the OGX Lavender Luminescent Platinum products at Walmart, Ulta, Walgreens, and online.
