Wet n Wild Velvet Matte Lip Color – Review & Swatches

Hello, friends!  In my most recent post, I talked about what is to come from Wet n Wild.  Today I have some swatches and a review of the new collection of Wet n Wild Velvet Matte Lip Colors*.

I am so on board with this matte lipstick trend, so let’s get to it!

Wet n Wild introduced velvet matte lip colors in January 2015, as a part of the Fergie collection, however I have seen Wet n Wild products with the Fergie logo pop up in clearance bins, so perhaps their contract with Fergie-Ferg expired.  While I do not own any of the Fergie colours, I wonder if these lip colors are a re-package Fergie ones, as they appear to have very similar colours.

On to the swatching!

Charred Cherry
Turnt Orange
Toffee Frappe
Lie Lack
Swatched on my arm.
Hickory Smoked
Shelly Shocked
Berry Tales
Nude Streak
Swatched on my arm.

I was missing one of the colours, but Chelle from Makeup Your Mind, has kindly let me borrow her photo.

Review:

I have mixed feelings about these lip colors.  A fair amount of them weren’t as bold as I would have liked them to be.  Colours like Turnt Orange, and Lie Lack felt pretty sheer during application.  I found myself having to colour in a couple of layers before I thought any colour showed up – they felt and sometimes looked more like a lip tint, than a lip colour (if that makes sense).  Even when I swatching on my arm, some felt like I was swatching a liptsick, and some felt like I was swatching a tinted lip balm.

My favourite colour would have to be Charred Cherry, not only because I like the colour, but because I liked that formula was the most pigmented and had the firmest consistency of the bunch (I might have to add another one to the favourite list, because Chelle makes Looking For Truffle look so pretty!).  I can definitely appreciate that these are retractable (bye-bye sharpener!), which would make me reach for it, over a wooden-style lip colour.

I rate the Wet n Wild Velvet Matte Lip Colours as “hit or miss”.  Thanks for reading, and until next time, toodles! – Shawna
