The 2018 Lunar New Year is just around the corner (Friday, February 16, to be exact!). Givenchy is releasing a limited-edition, 2 piece collection in celebration of Lunar New Year.
If you’re a sucker for beautiful packaging, this collection will blow you away.
The collection is housed in stunning packaging – ruby red with silver accents, and adorned in white gold blossoms.
The ‘Prisme Libre – Shade #1’ ($60 USD/$69 CAD) features four different shades of face powders (white, purple, blue, and green) that combine and turn into an invisible setting powder. The packaging features an imitation leather lid, with a customized puff. Purely by habit, I reached for my Sigma F30 powder brush to apply the powder, as it distributes powder beautifully. The average person would probably be apprehensive about applying purple, blue, and green powder to the face, but when blended together with the white powder it didn’t cause any type of colored-cast to appear on my face. Because it blended into a translucent powder, I did not do arm swatches.
I first applied it to my nose and was actually taken aback as to how instantly it blurred out my pores – it was magic! It was so finely milled that no chunks sat on top of my skin. It just blended in with my foundation, and actually made it feel smoother and more comfortable.
The ‘Le Rouge’ lipstick in ‘Rouge Égérie – #305’ ($40 USD/$45 CAD) is possibly the most beautifully packaged lipstick I’ve ever owned. The cap features a red base with white gold flowers on genuine printed leather. There are also silver accents featuring the Givenchy logo, and some silver square studs near the base of the tube, which you grip when removing the cap.
The lipstick itself features the Givenchy logo embossed on the side of the classic-shaped bullet.
The shade is a rosy coral. It applied a little bit more sheer than I imagined it would, but it still had good pigmentation. At first glance, I thought that this would be a pure red, but it had some rosy-ness to it, with a light rosy scent – very spring appropriate! I applied the base with a Sigma L06 brush for precision (and because a fancy application felt necessary for such a fancy product). The formula was creamy, so it had no problem being picked up and applied to my lips with a lip brush. The lipstick felt moisturizing and smooth, and had a light creamy sheen to it. It was not transfer-proof (I found out when I was eating ice cream – lol!), but it did leave a ‘popsicle-stained lips’ look behind, once removed.
For comparison, I swatched it next to Too Faced Peach Kiss Lipstick ‘Breakfast Club’ (review HERE), and Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick in ‘Fire Starter’ (review HERE).
What a beautiful collection! If you’re into collecting limited-edition makeup (and aren’t afraid to wear it once you buy it), this collection should definitely be on your list – pretty to look at, and even prettier to wear!
