Dior Rouge Dior Liquid – Review, Swatches, and Looks

Dior took their first dip into the liquid lipstick pool during the holiday 2016 season with the Matte Fluids from their ‘Holiday Splendor Collection’.

Now they have a whole slew of liquid lipsticks to add to their roster.

The Dior Rouge Dior Liquid ($35 USD/$43 CAD) is a collection of liquid lipsticks with three different finishes:  matte, satin, and metallic.

The packaging is a tall square tube with glossy black packaging, a silver accent between the cap and the tube, and a window that shows the product inside (always a plus when you can see the actual product).  Each tube contains 6 mL of product.

It features a doe foot applicator with a little dip in it, to hold the right amount of product – this eliminates having to dip in several times.

‘Shock Matte’ (585) is a warm Barbie pink.  The application was light and smooth.

‘Frenetic Matte’ (788) is a pink-y red.  It was watery, so it took a second layer to get good colour payoff (although the watery-ness made the application feel very refreshing).

‘Poison Metal’ (979) is a metallic maroon-brown with a red lean.  This was the most pigmented shade of the four – it’s a one-coater!  It reminded me of the Milani Amore Matallic Lip Cream in ‘Matterialistic’ (Review HERE).

‘Hectic Matte’ (862) gives a wine-stained look to your lips.  It was pretty patchy, and unfortunately I couldn’t get it to even out.

The Dior Rouge Dior Liquids don’t really set like your traditional liquid lipsticks.  We’re used to liquid lipsticks drying to a crusty paint, but I liked how these were a bit more watery, so it felt more comfortable to wear.  That being said, because of this, the lipsticks were not transfer-proof.

While I like how these liquid lipsticks looked at first, as I wore them, the matte and the satin shades seemed to deteriorate a bit.  After 1-4 hours of wear, the matte and satin shades crumbled up into dark chunks and gathered around either the cracks of my lips or on the edges of where the lipstick was applied.  The metallic finish held up the best out of all the finishes.
