Rouge Dior Matte Lipstick ‘Distinct Matte’ and ‘Terrific Matte’ – Review, Swatches, Look

Dior’s spring 2017 collection is in full bloom.

Today I’m talking matte lipsticks.  I’m so glad that matte lipsticks are still on trend, because I love how they look, and as they continue to stay in fashion, brands improve on their formulas (on a finish of lipstick that is notoriously uncomfortable).

Recently Dior released 50 shades to the Rouge Dior line, and with that big number came some bold shades – including coral-reds, and a grey (review HERE)!  These two new shades are a great addition to the Rouge line.  Join me in welcoming ‘Distinct Matte’, and ‘Terrific Matte’ to the family.

They come in the classic Rouge Dior packaging – a navy blue and silver tube, coming in a matching box.

‘Distinct Matte’ is taupe-y milk chocolate.  It reminds me of that 90’s grunge-inspired lip.

‘Terrific Matte’ is a rosy auburn red, that is like the older sister of ColourPop’s ‘Bumble’.

I am so impressed with these lipsticks.  Not only are the shades a nice stray on the norm, but the formulas are great.  They felt comfortable, creamy, and had fantastic coverage – no third or fourth swipe necessary.  The pigmentation was exactly what I look for in a lipstick – not sheer, but not so pigmented that it’s stark.  I even noticed that when I blotted down ‘Terrific Matte’ with a tissue (and expected a stain to be left behind), although it felt lighter on my lips, the punch of the colour looked exactly the same as when I first applied it.  If you’re looking for a luxury lipstick, I’d definitely recommend checking these two shades out.

You can find Rouge Dior Lipsticks ($43.00 CAD) at Dior counters now.

I’m enjoying how long these last while drinking, and it last most the day! I don’t usually like Matte lip color, but these did go on smoothly, and had a gloss to them. The colors are nice, but a few of them were a bit too dark for my skin tone, and my age. I noticed a scent to each one; a few even smelled a bit like cookies or fresh baked goodies. A few others had a bit of a funny scent to it, that I can’t describe. I like the shape of the wand, it helps keep the color where it needs to be.
