NYX Lip Lingirie in ‘Embellishment’ – Review, Look, and Comparison Swatches

Another liquid lipstick to add to the test pile.  NYX came out with their Lip Lingirie line a little while ago, so I grabbed ‘Embellishment’ during a trip to Ulta.  Since then it’s been sitting in my lipstick storage, whispering “Play with me, Shawna”.

Whatever you say, makeup…..

NYX’s Lip Lingirie line features 12 shades that give that nude lip look  for various skintones.  Of course I had to grab the purple-toned shade.

‘Embellishment’ is a purple greige, with a bit of pink, to make it part of the “nude” family.  The product set fairly quickly, but was noticeably drying, which was a downside for me, since the dryness in most liquid lipsticks (ColourPop, Milani, ABH, Kat Von D) doesn’t usually bug me.

I consider the Lip Lingiries to be what would happen if NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Creams and Liquid Suedes had a baby.  The formula is mousse-y like the Soft Matte Lip Creams, but the packaging (long bottle, same long, flat, panel applicator) is more like the Liquid Suedes.

This shade looked somewhat light on swatch pictures that I saw online, but on me the shade dried quite dark (which happens to me sometimes, when wearing liquid lipsticks).  That being said, I didn’t dislike the colour.  I haven’t met a matte purple that I didn’t like!

I grabbed a few liquid lipsticks that I thought might look similar, but ‘Embellishment’ still found a way to stand out.  The closest colour I found was ColourPop’s ‘Trap’, since it also has some grey in it. The other two shades that I compared it to (Too Faced Melted Matte ‘Queen B’ and Dose of Colors ‘Stone’) are more tailored for the natural look, whereas NYX’s and ColourPop’s work for that ‘zombie lip’ look (which I am here for).

I’m torn – lovely colour, but the dryness and discomfort for this one is a big negative.  I’m usually pretty happy when it comes to NYX’s lip products (the Liquid Suedes feel fantastic on me!), so this one was a bit of a downer.  Perhaps I’ll wear it with a heavier balm underneath.
