Behold, friends – the prettiest lipstick I have ever seen!
These are the Colour Lust Lipsticks from Quo’s new 2016 collection.
Quo has released new products for this year (read about the launch HERE), and the Colour Lust lipsticks are definitely the stand-out. The collection includes six lipsticks with shiny cream finishes.
The lipstick tube features a silver and pink houndstooth design with a magnetic closure, and the lipstick bullet is square-cut (similar to the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks), with polka dots and houndstooth embossing.
‘Red Devil’ is your classic fire engine red. This lipstick was the most pigmented from the collection, only requiring one swipe to showcase that bold colour payoff.
‘Gossip Session’ is a papaya coral colour. It applied a bit patchy and sheer, so it took a few layers to achieve my desired coverage.
Next is ‘Sinbad’ which is a a burgundy red with subtle blue shimmer. It was a bit sheer and required two layers to achieve opacity. This one surprised me, and was actually my favourite of the bunch. It’s very wearable, and a great twist on a bold lip. The blue shimmer makes it reflect and catch the light, and it isn’t too in-your-face (I actually didn’t notice the blue shimmer until I zoomed in on one of the pictures).
‘Pink Wisp’ is a salmon pink, whose formula and colour is very similar to ‘Gossip Session’.
‘Serenade’ is probably going to be the biggest crowd-pleaser, as it is a spin on that very on-trend dusty rose colour, but has a glossy finish and is a bit more vibrant.
Last is ‘Mamba’, which is an orange-toned beige colour – it could be considered a ‘nude’ on certain skintones. This one was very creamy.
My favourite thing about the Colour Lust lipsticks is the shape. The square-cut bullet made it a dream to apply – it was so easy to stay within my lip lines, and easily carve out below my cupid’s bow. I wish all solid lipsticks had this cut. And let’s not forget to mention how pretty these lipsticks look – I’m such a sucker for good packaging! They also feel quite nice on my lips – buttery and not too thick.
I wish that the lipsticks themselves were a bit more matte, not just because matte lipsticks are on trend right now, but because the creamy/glossy finish from some of the colours made the formula noticeably settle into my lines. I also found that the lipsticks looked quite different when worn on my lips, compared to being swatched on my arm.
All in all, I think this is a well-rounded collection. It has some bold colours, some nudes, and some wearable everyday colours. As far as the colour selection, if I were to critique one thing, it would be to include less orange-toned lipsticks, as a large chunk of the collection has some sort of orange worked into it.
Quo Colour Lust Lipstick retails for $14 and can be found at Shoppers Drug Mart.
