Dior 5 Couleurs Polka Dots Eyeshadow Palette ‘Bain De Mer’ and ‘Escapade’ – Review and Swatches

Dior has just released two limited edition summer palettes as part of the Summer 2016 Milky Dots line.

These palettes combine sand and bronze tones with vivid colours.

Happiness reigns in the sunny aura if the Bain De Mer palette.  As does a real pop attitude in that splash of azure blue to play off a sensual coral, an ultra-stylish nude and a pinkish ochre ready to melt into the skin.

I first applied the bronze colour on my crease.  I then applied the yellow on the inner third of my lid, the light blue in the middle third of my eyelid, and the red on the outer third of my lid.  I added the bold blue to my lower lash line, and highlighted the look by revisiting the yellow and applying it to my browbone.

Sand dunes, the reddening sun and the skin gradually taking on a summer glow.  The yes join in with Escapade, taking its colours – melon, bronze, pink and beige – from an unforgettable summer.

For this look I blended out the light tan colour in my crease.  I placed the pink all over my lid, then blended out the dark brown on my outer lid (in the “outer v”).  I made sure to go back and blend out some more of the light tan, to make the look more cohesive.  Then I added the orange on my lower lash line, and highlighted my browbone with the white.

My favourite of the two palettes would have to be ‘Escapade’ because the neutral-ness of the colours make it more wearable.  I really like applying a shimmery colour to my lower lash line and letting the sparkles peek out through my mascara-ed lashes, and the orange in the ‘Escapade’ palette is perfect for that.  ‘Bain De Mer’ is definitely for those days when I’m feeling more adventurous with my makeup.  I do wish that the shadows were more pigmented – I had to dip my finger in a couple of times to get a good swatch, and had to do a few layers of shadow on my eye, to get it show.  To make bolder colour combinations like ‘Bain Der Mer’ pop a bit more, I would suggest wearing it with a white base, like I usually do with more colourful looks (example, my IMATS makeup).  All that being said, I really like how these shadows wear.  They are finely milled, so they picked up nicely on my brush. They also blended out beautifully.

The Dior 5 Couleurs Polka Dots Eyeshadow Palettes are $73.00, and can be found at Dior counters starting May 2016.
