Happy GAL-entine’s Day!

Oh, you haven’t heard of Galentines Day?  Why, it’s only the most wonderful day of the year!  It’s the day before Valentine’s Day, on February 13th, where you leave your significant other at home, gather your best girls, and enjoy each other’s company, and “kick it breakfast style”.  Park’s and Recreations reference, anyone?  So, what better way to prepare for the lovey-dovey-est day of the year, than to throw yourself and your friends a little pre-V-Day shindig.  Filled with waffles, good company, and of course, some Valentine’s-themed mini-makeovers!

Now, I may not be the best waffle cook in the world (That’s a lie, I’m a great cook.), but I can definitely help you find a fun and inexpensive way for you and your friends to ‘treat yo’selves’, and get creative with your Valentines/Galentine’s Day make-up looks.

Galentine’s Day is tomorrow, and you want to put together a little shin-dig to celebrate your best ladies.  You’ve got the breakfast planned, but what about some fun activities?  Wet n Wild has you covered, with make-up you can play around with, all for less than $4 each.

Let’s start with nails.  Here’s a nail art tutorial that you can do with your friends, with 2 Wet n Wild nail polishes, and toothpicks – both items that my fellow Canadians can pick up at Loblaws Superstore.

What you will need:  Wet n Wild nail polish in “She Sells” (left), and “Lavender Creme” (right), a dotting tool/toothpicks.
1)  Paint a solid base using “She Sells” (2 coats).
In center of the nail, as well as the 4 corners, using your dotting tool or toothpick, make two connecting dots with the Wet n Wild nail polish in “Lavender Creme”.
Dip your toothpick in “Lavender Creme”, and create a pointed end beneath each of the connected dots you made in the last step.
Finish it off with your favourite topcoat, and you’ve got a fun mani ready for Valentine’s Day.

In addition to cute nails, you might want to dress up your lips for Valentine’s Day.  Wet n Wild has a huge selection of reds and pinks, again, all under $4 each – with a price tag like that, why not?

If you’re looking for a classic red lip, check out the Silk Finish lipstick in “Cherry Frost”.  It applies light, and very smooth.

If you are looking for something glossy and sparkly, you can try out the Mega Slicks Lip Gloss in “Sinless”.

And if you’re like me, and are on the ‘matte lip’ train, look no further than the Mega Last Lip Colour Line – a line that I am no stranger to, I already own a fair amount of these bad boys.  These lippies have a semi-matte, creme finish, that doesn’t feather or bleed.  For a doll-like pink lip, you can try “Think Pink”.

And for a bright pop of colour, try out “Don’t Blink Pink”.

The Mega Last Lip Colours are definitely my favourite lip item from the brand.  They’re affordable, long-lasting, and come in a variety of colours.  In addition to lippies, I highly recommend checking out Wet n Wild’s eyeshadow palettes – I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, “Wet n Wild has seriously been stepping up their game, as of late”.  It has truly grown from that brand we all used in our teens, when we first started experimenting with make up, to a brand who’s display I run directly to, every time there’s a new release.  My favourites from the last year are the “Smoke & Melrose”, and “Melrose at Night” palette (comparable to the Naked 3 palette).  I love buying their shadows palettes (I own about 10), from the trios to the 8-pans, the eyeshadows have yet to disappoint me.  So if you’re looking to top off your Galentine’s Day look, or spruce it up for Valentine’s Day, don’t hesitate to check out Wet n Wild.

So there you have it, a fun and inexpensive way to celebrate Galentine’s Day, and prep for the day after.  Until next time! – Shawna
