Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer – Review, Comparison Swatches, Before & After

It took a special trip to Ulta, but I got my paws on the coveted Tarte Shape Tape.

I’ve seen this concealer all over YouTube, and they say that it’s magical, so when  I got a 20% off prestige brands coupon from Ulta, I knew that this would be my chance to try it out.

I had heard that the Shape Tape is heavy duty, which was a bit off-putting for me, since I don’t have terrible under eye circles, at the moment (my under eye circles go through phases, and I’m currently in a decent place, with them).

The first thing I need to start off with is the size.  Usually with makeup, I find that products are usually smaller in person, but this was the exact opposite.  Twas HUGE.  It contains 0.3381 Fl. Oz. of product (for a size comparison, the Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer contains 0.23 Fl. Oz.).  It has a gigantic doe-foot applicator which has a dip in the tip, to hold more product.

To show how big this applicator actually is, I compared it to the applicator in the the Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer.

I’ve seen people paint the product onto their face, but since I don’t need a lot of coverage at the moment, I applied a few dots under my eye.  I also applied some product down the bridge of my nose, on my forehead near the centre of my brows, and on my chin, to brighten up the centre of my face.  In the “before” pictures I am wearing foundation and brow products.

I blended everything out with a damp Beauty Blender.  Although I usually never run my Beauty Blender with the remaining product onto my eyelids (it always ends up making my lids a patchy mess), I did that as well.  The usual patchiness occurred, but you can see how it really cancelled out the redness on my lids, and created an even skintone.

This stuff is no joke.  A little goes a long way.  The biggest takeaway I got from using the Shape Tape, was the fact that it is a great option if you are looking for a product that can help you get an even and blank canvas to work from.  I did have minimal creasing, after wearing it the entire day, but nothing too noticeable.

You can definitely see the shade difference between Shape Tape and my other go-to concealers.  I wasn’t sure what shade I was, so I opted for the lightest one (I also went with this shade because a lot of other options were sold out).

In the future I’ll be reaching for Shape Tape on those days when I have super uneven skin, and big bags under my eyes.
