Leave it to the most uneasy times in our lifetime to leave us sleepless and sporting bags under our eyes – but what else is new?
Today, I’m sharing the latest from MAKE UP FOR EVER, the Matte Velvet Skin Concealer.
Introducing Matte Velvet Skin Concealer, a new generation concealer that combines high coverage with an airy texture that blends perfectly into the skin for a natural and lightweight matte finish. Co-created with our professional makeup artists, this new concealer is designed to correct and conceal on all areas of the face.
The MAKE UP FOR EVER Matte Velvet Skin Concealer ($27 USD/$36 CAD) comes in a lightweight plastic tube with a window to show the shade inside and contains 9 ml of product. It comes in 22 shades.
The extra-large doe-foot applicator has a well near the tip to hold extra product. It reminds me of the Tarte Shape Tape concealer applicator.
The concealer claims to have a flexible and breathable texture that’s easy to apply, feels lightweight on the skin and is also long-wearing (up to 24 hours, but ya girl can’t last 24 straight hours wearing makeup).
I wore shade 2.2, the second lightest shade in the range. It was quite yellow-toned which wasn’t a great match for me because I need pink-toned concealers to combat the blue bags under my eyes. It blended out with ease and was comfortable to wear. Although I set it with loose powder, after a day of wear there was a bit of creasing right under the eyes. The coverage was impressive – I was almost able to achieve full coverage, although you can see in the before and after photo, there was still some blue/purple peaking out on the right side. I wore the concealer on my under eyes, down my nose and to cover up blemishes, and much to my delight, the concealer sat easily on my nose without settling into my pores (a big plus for me).
Is this the be-all-end-all for concealers? In my opinion, no. However, it provided strong coverage and lasted the day without creasing too much. I can confidently say that this concealer was a step up from the MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Self-Setting Concealer because it not only applied easily to under my eyes but also covered up blemishes nicely and was just a step up as far as coverage. I’ll still be sticking to my beloved Tarte Shape Tape concealer just because of the pink undertones and how it can completely cover up my under eye circles, but if MAKE UP FOR EVER were to expand the shade and undertone range of these concealers, I think it would be able to cover up my problem areas and therefore be higher up on my list.
The coverage of this concealer seems really good. I love concealers that doesn’t crease much and stay intact for almost the entire day.

Not creasing is one of the main things I look for in a concealer
