It’s been a while since I chatted about JOE FRESH makeup. The last time I tried it was in fall 2016, when they released some new core products (Review HERE).
With JOE FRESH I find that the products progressively improve, with every launch, so I was hoping that the new 2017 products followed the pattern.
The JOE FRESH Eye Shadows ($6 CAD each or 2/$10 CAD), come in five shades: Cacao, Champagne, Cinnamon, Meteor, and Pretty Penny. They claim super blendability, silky powder texture, rich pigmented colour, and intense colour payoff.
These five shadows contain a mix of mattes, satins, and shimmers. My favourite was ‘Pretty Penny’ – not only because of the gorgeous shade, but because of how easy it was to work with. Usually with shadows that have a satin, almost metallic finish, I have a difficult time getting to look as vibrant on my eye, as it does on my finger, but ‘Pretty Penny’ was a dream – it picked up on my brush with ease, and went onto my lids with no fuss.
The Highlighter Stick in ‘Pink Pearl’ ($10 CAD) is a light pink with a yellow-gold sheen.
I had used a JOE FRESH highlighter stick in the past, and didn’t like how streaky and unblendable it was, but ‘Pink Pearl’ was a completely different story. It glided onto my cheeks very smoothly, and blended out nicely with my fingers. It felt like a stick to powder formula.
The Tinted Lip Balms ($12 CAD) come in 10 different shades. They are formulated with antioxidants and skin strengthening ingredients.
‘Spice’ is a sheer nude pink. It applied nicely, with a bit of pull, almost like it was slightly melted. Ooooh! And it smelled like watermelon Jolly Rancher!
The only thing I didn’t like about this lip balm was how soft it was. Because of the soft formula, the bullet would wiggle around and hit the sides of the tube. It felt like it was very close to breaking off at the base.
The Universal Brow Crayon ($12 CAD) is a brow pomade in a chubby crayon-sized retractable package.
This one was probably my least favourite of the collection. While it tamed my brows, it felt a bit heavy. Beyond that, I think when people do their brows, they want a level of precise-ness, which you dont get with a huge crayon-like applicator. Finally, the shade is not universal (a one shade fits all) – it was too dark for this gal (which is why I didn’t wear it in the photos below).
Last but not least is the 8 Hour Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner in ‘Burgundy’ ($8). I am ALL for a red eyeliner, so I was really happy to see this shade.
This sharpenable pencil eyeliner is waterproof, and is supposed to last a full 8 hours. I really liked this liner. It sets fairly quickly, so make sure that when applying, you work with speed. The shade is indeed burgundy, but when I wore it over brown-ish shadows, it turned into a very wearable purple-y brown liner. And it didn’t budge or fade!
In the look below I applied the shadow ‘Cinnamon’ in my crease, ‘Pretty Penny’ all over my lid, ‘Cacao’ in the outer corner and blended in towards the crease, and ‘Champagne’ on the lower lash line. Then I finished off the eye look with the ‘Burgundy’ eyeliner. I applied the Highlighter Stick to the tops of my cheeks and my browbone. Finally, I wore the ‘Spice’ lip balm.
If I had to pick a top 3 from this collection, I’d pick the ‘Pretty Penny’ Eye Shadow, ‘Burgundy’ Eyeliner, and the Highlighter Stick in ‘Pink Pearl’. I’m really impressed with these products – best JOE FRESH products yet!
