Revlon #LoveIsOnCA Event + Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer Review & Swatches

Welcome, tea mates!  Ooooh, do I have a fun one to share with you today.  Last week I attended Revlon’s “Love Is On” event at Yonge-Dundas Square.  The event was to celebrate the launch of Revlon’s new campaign, inspired by love.  And you can’t spell Revlon, without using the letters L-O-V-E (seriously, it’s scrambled in there – cool, right?), so who better than Revlon to usher in this new and celebratory movement?

Click through to hear my thoughts…
The event started off with a a set-up in the middle of Yonge-Dundas Square, where people were encouraged to try out some lip products, take a picture at the photo booth, and post it on twitter, while declaring your love with the hashtag #LOVEISONCA.  The photos would appear on the giant screens surrounding Yonge-Dundas Square.  There were roses EVERYWHERE – being handed to people, with Revlon coupons attached, on the backdrop in the photo booth, and on the giant heart display in the centre of the entire event.

They also premiered the new commercial on the big screen, which you can check out here:

Ooooh, so saucy, yet cheeky.  I like the fact that there’s a story in the ad.  I really like the close-ups of the make up, but I LOVE the music – That cover of “Addicted To Love”, fit the feel of commercial so well.  It kind of reminded me of the “50 Shades of Grey” movie trailer – a little more tv appropriate, but still very mysterious.

After the ad premiered, we were invited inside the warm tent where we were treated to a hot chocolate bar, some snacks, and a fantastic & engaging presentation about the brand & their new products.  Wendy Montgomery, the VP of Marketing, and Jacquie Hutchison, Revlon’s National Trainer told us about how Revlon is a brand built on love, passion, and romance, and how Revlon is about inspiring women, and giving them confidence.

Revlon is now going HD, by creating products that make whoever wears it look impeccable and flawless.  With the new line of cosmetics, including nail-transforming topcoats, the new 2015 nail collection, Colorstay liquid liner in jewel-tone colours, 100% wax-free lipsticks, lip lacquer, ‘Insta-Fix skin retoucher’, ‘Photoready airbrush effect’ make up, ‘Prime & Anti-Shine’ balm, and gold series titanium-coated beauty tools, it is fair to say that Revlon is doing a great job with their innovative beauty movement. #LOVEISONCA

I also got to make a new friend, make up artist Kaytee Pui San, who was kind enough to let me use some of her photos from the evening.  Here is a picture of us from the photo booth.  You can check out KayTee’s work on her facebook page, Kaytees Cosmetics, HERE.

I promised a review and swatches, and I am a woman of my word.  I’d like to introduce you to Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer.

These lip lacquers feature a unique high-definition gel base formula.  It wraps lips in true colour pigmentation with a high shine finish and a bouncy, lightweight feel.  The shiny rich colour instantly hugs lips for the ultimate tempting pout.

I got the opportunity to try 3 colours.  Each lip lacquer is topped with a little bling-bling on the cap, and a professional brush applicator.

First up is HD Citrine.  HD Citrine is a fiery colour, with a bit of gold shimmer.  I would definitely use this colour in the summer, to top off a sun-kissed look, or even on a cold winter day, when trying to warm up my face.

Next is HD Pink Sapphire.  HD Pink Sapphire applies onto the lips much more sheerly than it appears in the bottle, but I prefer it that way.  In the bottle this colour can look a bit intimidating due to its Barbie Doll-like appearance, but once put on the lips, it is very light, and has a little bit of golden-y blue shimmer, if you look closely.  It’s a good colour if you are looking to spruce up a nude-lip, and you can also use it if you are rocking the make up-free look, and just want to add a light pop of colour.

Last is HD Smoky Quartz.  HD Smoky Quartz has a cocoa-y brown tone to it, with some gold shimmer.  This one was a bit more difficult to apply, because since it was the darkest of the 3 colours, it was easy to notice some streaky-ness.  If wearing the lip lacquer alone, I would recommend applying a light coat at first, and then slowly building it up.  Another way to wear this colour (as well as any of the Ultra HD lacquers) is to wear it on top of a lipstick, like the new Revlon Ultra HD Lipsticks (which I will be reviewing in the near future), to create a bolder lip, with some dimension.

If you have never been one for lip lacquers or glosses, you might want to check out the Ultra HD Lip Lacquer line.  Whenever I am wearing a liquid lipstick, I do the ‘windy day stick test”, where I throw my hair onto my lips and see if it sticks to the product.  In the past, whenever I knew I’d be wearing a liquid lipstick I’d HAVE to wear my hair up, so it was completely out of my face, and unable to go NEAR my lips (my hair can be so dramatic!).  While I can’t say that these lacquers passed the “windy day stick test” with flying colours, I can confidently say that this line has done the best so far, on said test – usually my hair sticks to the product and doesn’t move until I wipe the hair away, but with the Ultra HD Lip Lacquers, I would toss the hair towards my lips, it would stick for about 3 seconds, then the hair would slowly start sliding off.  So hooray for a brand who is closest to passing my test!

The lacquers come in 15 high definition shades, and are available at drugstores and mass retailers nationwide.  Visit revlon.ca for more information.

Thank you to the entire Revlon team for putting on a unique and memorable event.  More product reviews form the new line coming soon.  Until next time! – Shawna

Oooh those lacquers look nice. I haven't played around with them much, just the lipsticks. Glad you made it to the event, too bad I was working 🙁
