March Favorites

The end of March is upon us! Can you feel spring in the air? *looks outside, sees snow*  Only a few more weeks until I can pack away the winter jacket, right?  Here are some of my favorite items from the month of March.

Revlon Lip Butter in "Creme Brulee" - This is my first experience using Revlon's lip butter, and I'm very happy.  I had my eye on this color for a while. so I'm glad I picked it up.  I always thought that lip butters were just a fancy lip balm, but Revlon's actually have color!  This one was a bit sheer, but it's great for a natural face kinda day, because it gives you a not as intense nude-lip look.

Carrot Cake M&M's - Where do I even begin with these glorious drops of happiness?  I saw them online last year as the newest holiday flavor for Easter.  They were to be sold at Wal-Mart, but every Wal-Mart I went to didn't carry it.  Apparently it was only sold at a particular branch, so no dice last year.  BUT, in the beginning of the month, I walked into the local Wal-Mart (in the States, not sure about Canada), and the big Easter display was beaming on me like a ray of sunshine.  The choirs sang.  It was beautiful.....Anyway!  These things are awesome, if you're a fan of carrot cake.  They are white chocolate, and taste like the real thing!  Very cinnamon-y and nutmeg-y.

ELF's Daily Moisture Stick - Upon seeing a review of this on youtube, I decided to try it out, and boy, am I happy that I did.  I tend to have sensitive skin, so I am cautious when using new skincare products.  This is great if you have any dry patches on your face.  Putting it on (and I'm not exaggerating here) feels like the  refreshment you feel  when you are jumping into a swimming pool on a hot summer day.  I definitely see and feel the improvement of my skin.

Maybelline Baby Skin, Instant Pore Eraser - Point blank, this stuff works for me.  It blurs the looks of my pores, so I use always use it in my makeup routine.

Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in "Do The Mermaid" - I was lucky enough to get this on sale, and it is sooo pretty! A light lavender with small purple glitters, it really gets me into the spring spirit.

Udderly Smooth Hand Cream - As winter is just wrapping up (hopefully), I use this hand cream to repair any damage that the cold season brought to my hands.  It's great to pop into your purse, and as far as the product itself, it is lightly scented and has a thick consistency, which makes for a very moisturizing feeling.

Well, that's it for my March faves, did you have a new product you discovered this month?  Be sure to let me know, I'm always on the hunt for my next 'favorites' post.  Until Next time, don't forget to 'treat yo' self' to a mani!

NOTD - March 25, 2014

Here is my nail of the day, featuring my very first polish from Hare polish.

2 coats of Hare Polish in "Pegasus" over 1 coat of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in "Lacey Lilac".

Great application, no need to fish for glitter, and a beautiful result!  I'll definitely be adding to my Hare Polish collection, in the future.  Until next time, don't forget to 'treat yo' self' to a mani!

NOTD - Lost & Found

Another 'Nail of the Day' from a few weeks ago that I forgot to post - *whoops*

I used the pink speckled polish from Forever 21.  I bought it because it was a cheaper alternative to "I'm Not Edible" by Deborah Lippmann, and after finding the DL polish on sale, and turning down the opportunity to buy it, I think it's fair to say that the Forever 21 version is a great dupe.  Until next time, don't forget to 'treat yo' self' to a mani!

'Distracting Myself' Post...Continued

Yesterday I shared how I am distracting myself from the pain of intense at-home teeth whitening (if you haven't read it, check it out HERE).  I really like this dry brushstroke technique, I'm looking forward to trying it with different colour combinations.  Here is the mani that I came up with.

And with that, day 3 of Crest Whitestrips is done.  Until next post, don't forget to 'treat yo' self' to a mani!

'Distracting Myself' Post

So here's the short version of the story - I'm using these Crest Whitestrips that are SUPER intense, so I have to wear them for 2 hours.  All I have heard about from customer reviews and from friends are about how painful it is.  I read a review describing the pain as "AGONY. PAIN. PAIN. Agony! Never ending agony! It feels like 20 drills to the teeth and at the same time the sensation of someone taking their nails across a chalkboard.  Sensodyne doesn't help much.  NSAIDs don't help.  Be prepared to suffer unlike you have ever suffered before.  Are my teeth whiter? I don't know...I can't see colors anymore it hurts so much".  In addition, my friend described it as "labour pains in the mouth" I have that to look forward to.

So while I'm wearing these things, I'm trying to distract myself until the 2 hour alarm goes off.  I'm trying everything - 'Dance Moms' reruns aplenty, baking, housework, and now I'm trying nail polish.  I'm currently wearing a glitter polish, so that'll take some time and elbow grease to remove, and I'll use any leftover time to do a new mani.  I'm thinking of doing a mani with the dry brushstroke technique.  So here's a picture of the colours I plan on using, and the result will be a surprise to everyone.

Stay tuned for my updated mani :)

L'Oreal Warehouse Sale: Spring 2014, Part 1

Hi all!  Today, I'm sharing some pictures of the L'Oreal Warehouse Sale in Toronto, Ontario, as well as some goodies from my first trip.  This is an invite-only event, and I was lucky enough to get a ticket from the lovely Merry, of, so I owe a BIG thank you to Merry!  One ticket gets you and a friend 2 visits, and you are limited to purchases that total $600 dollars - they had higher priced items like perfumes and night creams, which I didn't buy, so I didn't even approach the limit.  The sale had brands such as L'Oreal, Maybelline, YSL, Essie, and many more.  I have only used up one of my visits, so I will go back and make a "Part 2" post.  Here are some pictures from inside the warehouse, and what I bought.

My Custom-Made Polish from Honey Buttons Nail Polish

Happy Reviews-Day Tuesday, friends!

Today, I have a review of my first custom nail polish from the lovely and talented Jessica, of Honey Buttons Nail Polish - I'm really excited to share this one with you!

Straight from the Honey Buttons website, they "create custom polishes with a personal touch and uniqueness for any occasion. They are perfect for gifts, favors, birthday parties and any other event!".  The customer collaborates with Jessica, by discussing what kind of polish they would like.  They discuss things like color, finish, optional glitter, and polish name.

Ever since I saw that there have been bow-shaped glitters, I had always wanted to get my hands on them.  I wanted to make a polish inspired by my competitive university cheerleading team, that I was a part of for 4 years.  Being a part of the team was such an integral part of my university experience - I had such a great time learning learn new skills like stunting & cheer jumps, I got the opportunity to compete & travel, and best of all, I became a part of a brand new family - so I wanted to make a polish that had my teams' uniform colors (red, white, and black).  And since the ladies of the team always wore big Minnie Mouse-style bows to practice and competitions, I wanted the polish packed with bow-shaped glitters.  So here's the blueprint for my official dream polish - a white crelly base, with red bow glitter, and small black hex glitter.  Here is what Jessica came up with.

Ahhhhh, it's BEAUTIFUL!  I'm in love!  The formula is so smooth, and it goes opaque in 2-3 coats.  It required a bit of fishing to get the bow glitters, but it's because they're a bit heavier than the average glitter - but it's not a problem to me.  I just closed the bottle, gave it a good shake, and next time I opened it, I had some bows on my brush.

In natural light.
I can't say enough about my new polish, "iCheer".  You guys have GOT to check out Honey Buttons Nail Polish's stuff.  I definitely recommend contacting Jessica to make polishes for your next birthday party, bachelorette party, or any event that needs some goodies for a swag-bag.  She is a joy to collaborate with, and the polish possibilities are endless!  Here are a few pictures from her instagram page, @honeybuttonsnailpolish, to show you some other customers' custom polishes.

That wraps up Reviews-Day Tuesday.  Until next post, don't forget to 'treat yo' self' to a mani!

It's A Beauty Haul-iday!

It's about time I shared my most recent beauty haul.  I got some goodies (lots of glitter-y items), so let's get this show on the road!

Sally Beauty Supply
L-R:  China Glaze "Sand Dolla Make You Holla", Orly "Macarbre Masquerade", Orly "Milky Way", Orly "Black Hole".
My first purchase at Sally's, and my first full-size Orly's!  Some were on clearance, and they were all on buy 1, get 1 free, AND I used the Sally's birthday coupon, on top of that, so needless to say, I'm pretty happy with my first time buying from Sally's.

The Dollar Tree & Wal-Mart

L-R:  Sinful Colors "Flirting Nails" (form Dollar Tree), Hard Candy "Pixie Pink", and "Cotton Candy Pink" (from Wal-Mart).
Heads up, these specific Hard Candy polishes are half price, I'm guessing that they're probably being cleared out to make room for the new Hard Candy collection, in the US.

Big Lots

L-R:  Revlon lipstick "Mauvy Night", "Just Enough Buff", and Revlon lip butter"Gumdrop".
L-R:  Revlon "Buttercup", NYC "Lincoln Center".
L-R:  Sephora by OPI "Spark-tacular!", Lights, Glammer-a, Action!", and "Come To Pappa-razzi!".
L-R:  Sephora By OPI "I Gotta Blush On You", "Meet Me At The Disco", "Looks Like Rain, Dear".
Quick note, check out the photo below of a close-up of "Meet Me At The Disco".  Check out that Shine!

Looks like that's all from my haul!  A small one, but a good one - and bonus points for every one of my purchases being on sale.  Check out some of your nearest beauty stores, pick up something you've had your eye on, and don't forget to 'treat yo' self' to a mani!

*And if you want to stay updated on my posts, follow this blog on GFC (right side of the page), or on bloglovin - thanks so much :)

Indies & Undies ft. U-Neek Polish

Happy Reviews-Day Tuesday, y'all!

Today on "Indies & Undies" I have some soon-to-be released nail polishes from U-Neek PolishU-Neek Polish is an etsy-based indie brand that creates "Custom Handmade Nail Polish made as U-Neek as you are".  I have 4 polishes to share with you - the lighting is different in a few of the pictures, but I wanted to change the lighting in order to capture an accurate color depiction.  Let's get into it!

Up All Night
"A deep, dark black/blue with shimmer."

1 coat
2 coats
U-Neek Polish in "Up All Night"
This polish is a "no undies necessary" polish.  Two coats and it is opaque, but I did 3 coats, because I like that little bit of extra shine and oomph.

Cosmic Rose
"A rosy pink, with holo."

1 coat

2 coats

U-Neek Polish' in "Cosmic Rose" over Pure Ice's "Love".
This polish is a holo, although it isn't one of those "in your face" holos, meaning that it is more of a subtle holo.  It's a great polish if you're looking to spruce up your basic pink mani, and aren't willing to commit to those suuuuper reflective holo polishes.

Plum Sorbet
"A muted purple jelly with shimmer."

1 coat
2 coats
U-Neek Polish in"Plum Sorbet" over Pure Ice's "New Lilac".
The fun thing about "Plum Sorbet" is that although it is a jelly, once layered over some purple undies, it turns into a purple-y/grey metallic color.  The result is different from any other purple polish that I own.

Crystal Blue Persuasion
"An icy blue jelly, with holo hex, powder blue, and lavender dots."

1 coat
2 coats
U-Neek Polish in "Crystal Blue Persuasion" over Pure Ice's "Bikini".
Save my fave for last, right?  It's got glitter, so of course it's my favourite!  The color combination of blue and lavendar is pretty, but the shimmer of the holo hex glitters almost looks green, which really makes this polish pop.  I wore it over a light blue creme, just to enhance the color palette of the indie polish, and to avoid changing the over-all look of it.

U-Neek polishes can be found on etsy, where they retail for $8.00 for a full sized bottle.  If you like these particular colors, be sure to keep your eyes open on the etsy shop, and on the U-Neek Polish facebook page, where you will soon see the official release announcement.
